Training since 1996, Mark Sainz is one of the city’s most popular fitness pros. Sainz, who has a black belt in Tae Soo Do, believes in a varied work out, along with diet, discipline and consistency. Treadmill, boxing, kickboxing and swimming are all good ways to burn maximum calories. He advocates what he calls a “dim sum” approach to fitness. “Do a little bit of this, a little bit of that,” he said. “Mix it up and you won’t get bored.” If you’re up for fun as well as fitness, Sainz is happy to take you for a ride. He has a loyal following of fans who flock to his spinning classes at the Malibu Health Club. It’s easy to see why this road to wellness is so well traveled. “There’s the group atmosphere and you get to ride at your own training level,” Sainz said, “plus there are cardiovascular and weight-loss benefits.” But whether you’re on a bike, in the water or on the run, what you get out of your work out depends on what you put in. If you’re just getting up to speed, Sainz says not to hurry, “Just go slow, stay focused and you’ll get there.”
